Police officers stopped the activities of shadow bankers in Moscow and the Ulyanovsk region, the amount of their illegal income amounted to about 40 million rubles. This was announced on December 17 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

"According to available information, about 100 legal entities were involved in illegal activities. The criminal community included more than 14 people," she wrote on the Telegram channel.

Volk pointed out that the organizers had developed a plan to generate income in the form of commission fees from conducting banking operations without special permission from the Bank of Russia.

Law firms affiliated with the suspects entered into contracts with clients for the provision of services, usually related to construction work, through a series of fictitious contracts, payments were withdrawn into cash and transferred to customers, Volk explained.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainees on the grounds of crimes under Articles 210 of the Criminal Code ("Organization of a criminal community"), Article 172 of the Criminal Code ("Illegal banking"), Article 174 of the Criminal Code ("Legalization of funds or other property acquired by other persons criminally") and Article 187 of the Criminal Code ("Illegal turnover of funds of payments").

Earlier, on November 12, law enforcement authorities suppressed the activities of an organized group suspected of illegal banking activities with a turnover of over 1 billion rubles. According to investigators, the defendants used one-day firms to simulate commodity and money turnover.
