Hungary will not support the confiscation of Russian frozen assets under any circumstances. The corresponding statement was made by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

"Hungary will not support the confiscation of assets of any country, not only Russia. We will not support this under any circumstances," the prime minister said in a video message posted on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company that is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

In a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Orban asked about the reaction of the Russian government in the case of confiscation and shared that the Russian leader had announced tough retaliatory measures "using all means of international law" and that "what position each EU country has taken will be taken into account."

Earlier in the day, Orban announced Hungary's refusal to cooperate with the EU, as he believes that he was the first to violate this principle by starting to study the issue of frozen assets of the Russian Federation. He stressed that such behavior by the heads of Western states is unacceptable.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on November 27 that the confiscation of Russian assets located in the European Union would have negative consequences. In particular, the Russian government, on behalf of the head of state, is developing a package of retaliatory measures.
