On December 16, US President Donald Trump threatened Venezuela with an "unprecedented shock" and demanded that Caracas return allegedly "stolen" oil, assets and land to the United States.

"Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest armada ever formed in the history of South America. It will only grow, and the blow to them will be something they have not seen before," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
