The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has imposed duties on pork and pork offal from the European Union (EU) since December 17 due to price dumping. This was reported by the Xinhua news agency on December 16.

The amount of duties varies from 4.9% to 19.8%. They will be valid for European manufacturers for the next five years.

The decision to impose duties was made after an investigation initiated on June 17, 2024 at the request of the Chinese Livestock Association. Later, the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China reported that the investigation proved the presence of dumping and causing significant damage to Chinese manufacturers.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on December 7 that the EU would take tough measures in the coming months if China did not take steps to address the trade deficit between the two sides. He proposed mutual steps to reverse "aggressive policies," including restrictions on exports of semiconductors and rare earths, and called on Chinese companies to invest in Europe.
