Maduro proposed to hold protests in the ports of the world against US piracy
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has called for protests against American piracy in ports around the world. This was reported by the EFE news agency on December 16.
Maduro called on oil and gas industry workers on Tuesday to organize a "great global protest" against the United States government.
He also called on oil workers to protect the rights to free trade in Venezuelan oil and asked them to talk to shipowners around the world to prepare protest actions.
During a speech at the White House on December 10, US President Donald Trump announced that US forces had seized a large tanker off the coast of Venezuela. It was clarified that the captured vessel was under U.S. sanctions.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed hope for an explanation from the United States for the detention of the tanker off Venezuela. He noted that "without any trial, without investigation," the United States landed on the deck of the tanker and declared that it was transporting prohibited oil for sale.
The Reuters news agency reported on December 12 that the United States plans to seize additional tankers with Venezuelan oil. It is noted that some of them could also transport raw materials from other countries under Washington's sanctions, including Iran. The American side has already compiled a list of vessels that are being considered as potential targets.
