Midad Energy from Saudi Arabia is one of the contenders for the purchase of foreign assets of the Russian oil company Lukoil. This was reported on December 16 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.

"Saudi Midad Energy has become one of the main contenders for the purchase of the Russian oil company Lukoil, using deep political ties with Moscow and Washington," the publication says.

According to the agency, Midad Energy plans to offer a monetary reward for the assets, while the funds will be kept in the account until the sanctions are lifted from the Russian company. American companies may also participate in the deal.

On December 2, Reuters reported that the American company Exxon Mobil offered the Iraqi authorities to acquire Lukoil's share in the large West Qurna– 2 oil field. We are talking about a 75 percent stake in the Russian company, which provides about 470 thousand barrels of production per day. This asset provides about 0.5% of the world's oil supplies and 9% of Iraq's total production.
