This was announced on December 17 by Svetlana Vakhrusheva, Director of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the School of Medicine and Life Sciences of the Far Eastern Federal University, Candidate of Medical Sciences.

"The symptoms of Hong Kong flu are not fundamentally different from other types of flu: the rapid onset of infection with a temperature above 38 degrees, chills, aching muscles, joints, severe headache, soreness when moving the eyes, possible dry cough,— said Vakhrusheva in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Virologist Svetlana Protasova said on December 14 that the Hong Kong flu, which is spreading in Russia, can cause severe complications, in particular otitis media and pneumonia. She noted that the disease is most dangerous for children under the age of five and the elderly over the age of 65, as it provokes an exacerbation of cardiovascular diseases. According to the doctor, in addition to pneumonia and otitis media, Hong Kong flu can cause myocarditis and other serious complications.
