The Bundeswehr has completed the mission to deploy its Patriot air defense systems and military personnel in Poland, which have been deployed to control the airspace over the city of Rzeszow since January 2025. This was reported by the Handelsblatt newspaper on December 16.

It is noted that initially it was planned to deploy German military personnel until the middle of summer, but later it was decided to extend their mission until December of this year. The article indicates that the protection of the airspace over Poland has now been transferred to the Netherlands.

In addition to Patriot, German Eurofighter fighters were stationed at the Malbork military airfield in Poland. However, for now they will remain on the territory of the Eastern European state. According to the head of the German Defense Ministry, Boris Pistorius, "German soldiers faced the full range of provocations and hybrid threats."

In addition, Pistorius noted that Germany supplied the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) two Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems and another Iris-T complex.

Bloomberg reported on December 9 that the German parliament intends to approve 29 defense orders for a record amount of € 52 billion ($61 billion) for the modernization of the Bundeswehr. On December 5, the Bundestag also approved a new law on military service aimed at increasing the size of the German Armed Forces and achieving NATO goals.
