- The media reported on the reunification of families from Russia and Ukraine on the Belarusian border
A family reunion from Russia and Ukraine took place on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. This was announced on December 16 by the Belarusian state TV channel Belarus 1.
"11 Russian and 10 Ukrainian families separated as a result of the conflict have been reunited. 15 people are returning to Russia and Ukraine each," the TV channel said in a statement.
The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatyana Moskalkova, commenting on the action on the air, noted that the preparation took more than six months and required coordination of medical support, logistics and taking into account the capabilities of the Belarusian side.
"Colleagues kindly provide us with this platform — family reunions and humanitarian actions are already taking place on the Belarusian side," she said.
In November, Moskalkova said that several Ukrainian citizens who had previously been evacuated by Russian military personnel from the war zone were in Kursk and expressed a desire to return home. She noted that the dialogue between the parties continues.
On December 11, she said that the Ukrainian side was not accepting back citizens who had been rescued by Russian military personnel in the Sumy region. According to her, there are currently six Ukrainian citizens in Kursk who were evacuated from the battle zone on their own initiative, after which they appealed to the Ombudsman with a request to facilitate their return to their relatives.
