On the eve of the New Year holidays, scammers are becoming more active, using online purchases and the hype around gifts to steal data and money. According to him, special care should be taken when receiving messages allegedly from shops in messengers. Attackers can introduce themselves as employees of trading platforms, clarify order details or offer bonuses, and then ask them to re-log in, confirm their account, or click on a link.
"Large services do not use instant messengers for re-authorization. In such cases, it is better to immediately stop the dialogue and check the information," the expert stressed.
He also said that buyers should not transfer money to sellers bypassing official payment methods. Transfers directly by card number or through third—party links deprive the client of the protection of the receipt, the ability to dispute the payment, and support from the marketplace or store. There is only one safe option — to pay for orders through the official website or application.
In addition, in December, fraudsters actively use phone calls on behalf of stores. Under the pretext of gifts, bonus points or problems with the order, the attackers are trying to extort personal data.
"If during a conversation you are asked to confirm your identity, give a code or click on a link, you should immediately end the conversation and double—check the information yourself," Borislavsky concluded.

The expert recommended dividing all upcoming expenses into categories.
