The expert warned about the risks of dependence on AI recommendations
Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more actively integrated into everyday life and imperceptibly changing habitual patterns of behavior. Algorithms help you plan your day, choose a route, make purchases, find discounts, and even pick up a movie before bedtime. This was announced to Izvestia on December 20 by Nikolai Turubar, Articul Development Director, technology expert and chairman of the RAEC Artificial Intelligence cluster.
He noted that recommendation systems analyze user actions and offer ready-made solutions. As a result, people are more likely to adjust their actions to the logic of algorithms. For example, information search ends up going to websites less and less often: in many services, AI responses become the final point of the query, and for most users this is enough. The selection of products, content, or route is also carried out from the suggested list, rather than as a result of an independent comparison.
"Against this background, new digital habits are forming. Users are beginning to perceive neural network advice as a natural part of their daily routine. Algorithms save time and simplify life, but at the same time they teach you to make a template choice. Increasingly, people are not the author of the solution, but the editor of the options that the machine offers," the specialist clarified.
In addition, some of the processes are gradually becoming fully automated. The apps themselves remind you about your business, adjust your schedule, offer optimal purchases, and adjust the news feed to the user's interests. Human intervention is minimized, and decisions are made based on data and past actions.
"However, this reliance on AI also carries risks. Among them are a decrease in critical thinking, loss of independence, and the "information bubble" effect, when algorithms show only what corresponds to already formed preferences. As a result, it becomes more difficult for a person to see alternatives and make truly informed decisions," the expert added.
According to him, in these conditions, digital awareness is of particular importance — understanding the principles of algorithms and the role of data in making recommendations. It is important for users to maintain a balance between convenience and personal choice: periodically review service settings, compare information sources, and not give technology the full right to decide for itself.
Turubar stressed that AI can significantly facilitate everyday life, but only on one condition: if a person remains in charge of the "man—machine" tandem, where algorithms serve as a tool, not a substitute for independent choice.
Earlier, on December 11, Dmitry Titov, head of the quality management and Artificial Intelligence Implementation department at AKFIX-RUS, told Izvestia how AI helps in choosing gifts for the New Year. According to him, a clear algorithm with a description of the person, context and budget allows the neural network to better understand the task and give personalized ideas that do not lie on the surface.
