Textile collection projects have been launched in Russian cities with millions of residents, and containers for collecting clothes for recycling have appeared. This was reported to Izvestia on December 16 by the Russian Environmental Operator (REO).

56 containers were installed in Nizhny Novgorod, and 50 each in Samara, Yekaterinburg and Perm. The project is already being implemented in St. Petersburg (about 2,200 containers) and the Leningrad region (about 300), as well as in the Moscow region (about 1,000).

Residents of participating cities can put any clean clothes, bed linen, towels, tablecloths, as well as other textiles in containers. Toys, plastic, and household garbage should not be put in containers, the REO clarified.

"Thanks to this project, things will not lie in landfills, but will get a second life. In addition, it will reduce the need for foreign raw materials and support the domestic industry," said Denis Butsaev, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia.

The containers will be emptied once every 10 days. After sorting, they will be sent to the Ivanovo eco—cluster, an enterprise with a full processing cycle. Not only simple rags will be made from old clothes, but suitable materials for yarn production will also be unfolded, which in turn can be used in finished products, such as gloves, the REO concluded.

On December 8, REO announced that industrial dust will be processed in Russia: the country's first zinc oxide production from industrial steelmaking dust is being prepared in the Saratov region. The company will annually process more than 100 thousand tons of steelmaking dust, which will produce up to 30 thousand tons of zinc oxide. It is used in medicine and cosmetology as an antiseptic and protective component in creams, ointments and powders, in light and heavy industry as a filler and dye for rubber, polymers, paper and paint products.
