The United States demands that Ukraine cede territories in exchange for security guarantees, similar to article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. This was reported by Politico newspaper on December 15, citing sources.

It is specified that the decision should be made in the near future, as conditions will become less favorable in the future.

"This proposal is the strongest and most explicit security promise made by the administration of [American Leader Donald] Trump gave it to Ukraine, but it is accompanied by an implicit ultimatum: accept it now, otherwise the next version will not be so generous," the publication says.

In addition, Washington expects Russia to accept such conditions and agree to Ukraine's accession to the European Union. One of the proposals is also the division of control over the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) between Russia and Ukraine. This assumes that the electricity generated at the plant will be split in half between the two countries.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on the same day that Ukraine's territorial concessions were part of the US conditions for acting as a guarantor of the peace agreement. According to him, the American side believes that the decision on concessions should be announced by Ukraine, since they do not intend to force it.

At the same time, the US president said that Ukraine had lost its territory. He also noted that the American side has made significant progress in resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
