The professor announced the inclusion of the word "labubu" in the dictionary of neologisms

The word "labubu" has been included in the new edition of the dictionary of neologisms and is now available in the Neolex electronic resource. This was announced on December 16 by Natalia Kozlovskaya, Head of the Russian Language Department at the A. I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University.

"The word "labubu" was first recorded in Russian speech in 2024. It has already entered the dictionary of new words," she said in an interview with TASS.

This word, which belongs to new lexical units, has already been fixed in the Neolex electronic resource, where you can find complete information about the meaning and origin of the word.

According to Kozlovskaya, at the moment the norm of the gender and stress of the word "labubu" has not yet been settled. It is used in both the masculine and feminine genders, which indicates its flexibility in language. Linguists note that the word continues to evolve, and its use in speech is actively growing.

The press service of the "Read the City" book network project reported on December 6 that, following the results of a popular vote, the main words of 2025 were chosen, they were "anxiety", artificial intelligence (AI) and "okak". Other contenders for the victory were the words "faith", "kringe", "love", "change". The list of words nominated in the Humanitarian category includes "faith", "Labubu", "patriotism", "victory", "values" and others.
