The media reported a record number of executions in a year in Saudi Arabia
In 2025, Saudi Arabia broke its own record for the number of executions, carrying out 340 sentences, including three executions that took place on December 15. This is evidenced by data from the Agence France-Presse (AFP) agency, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti.
It is specified that 232 people were sentenced to death for drug-related crimes. Execution for drug trafficking continues to be one of the priorities in the fight against crime in the kingdom, which also reflects the continuation of the "war on drugs" launched in 2023.
In 2024, 338 people were executed in the kingdom. The surge in the number of death sentences is attributed to the resumption of appropriate punishments for drug trafficking after a three-year hiatus.
The Mingpao portal reported on December 9 that a court in China had executed the death sentence against Bai Tianhui, the former CEO of the investment company China Huarong International Holdings, who was convicted of accepting bribes worth about $156 million. According to the newspaper, from 2014 to 2018, Bai Tianhui used his official position to help others acquire projects and receive funding.
