The media reported on Kushner's refusal to build a hotel in Belgrade.
US President Donald Trump's son-in-law and businessman Jared Kushner has cancelled a plan to build a Trump Tower hotel in Belgrade after accusations against senior Serbian officials and protests. This was reported on December 15 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.
"Jared Kushner abandoned a planned Trump-branded project in Belgrade after the project sparked protests," the publication said.
Kushner decided to abandon the construction of a hotel in Belgrade on the site of the destroyed General Staff of Yugoslavia after allegations of abuse of office and falsification of documents related to the project were made against Serbian high-ranking politicians. Serbia's Special Prosecutor's Office on Monday filed charges against Culture Minister Nikola Selakovic and three other people.
According to the publication, the project, which Kushner had been developing for two years, was met with criticism, with accusations of its unconstitutionality and corruption.
On November 11, Bloomberg reported that thousands of protesters took to the streets of Belgrade, opposing the construction of the Trump Tower hotel complex in the city center. The project envisaged the construction of at least two skyscrapers, including a 175-room hotel and 1.5 thousand luxury apartments in the center of Belgrade, across the street from the Serbian government building.
