The Hong Kong strain of the H3N2 virus is currently most commonly found in the Far East and Siberia. This was announced on December 16 by Svetlana Vakhrusheva, Director of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the School of Medicine and Life Sciences of the Far Eastern Federal University, Candidate of Medical Sciences.

"The Hong Kong strain of the H3N2 virus is predominant among the studied patients, with the highest frequency of detection in the Far East and the Siberian region," Vakhrusheva said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the doctor, there is an active spread of the Hong Kong strain of the H3N2 virus in Russia, which is the most frequently detected among the sick. The virus is mainly fixed in the Far East and Siberia. However, as the specialist noted, information about the new subtype of the H3N2 virus, subtype K, is still insufficient in Russia.

"Given the history of epidemics in recent decades, it is possible to reduce the degree of tension regarding this strain of influenza," Vakhrusheva concluded.

Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko said on December 13 that Russians should not be afraid of the Hong Kong flu, but infection can be dangerous for people with chronic diseases of the lungs, cardiovascular and endocrine systems. He added that the appearance of the virus in Russia was expected and predicted.
