Lukashenko says the doors are "always open in Belarus" for Maduro
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said on Tuesday, December 16, that the doors of his state are always open to the leader of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro.
"Maduro has never been our enemy or opponent. If he wanted to come to Belarus, the doors are open for him here," he is quoted as saying in an interview with Newsmax TV channel on the Telegram channel Pool One.
However, Lukashenko stressed that there had never been any talk of such a thing, since Maduro is a strong man who "will not leave everything and run away." According to him, the president of Venezuela is a "decent and sane" person with whom it is possible to negotiate.
Lukashenko completely refuted Maduro's connection with drug trafficking, pointing to the objectivity of the American side in this matter.
On the same day, BelTA learned about Lukashenko's intention to talk with US President Donald Trump about Venezuela. It was noted that this conversation is planned to be held soon.
Alexander Shchetinin, head of the Latin American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said during the Third Russian-Venezuelan Youth Forum on December 15 that Russia was also providing necessary political support to Venezuela, off the coast of which a large tanker was seized by American forces on December 10.
On December 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed hope for an explanation from the United States for the detention of the tanker off Venezuela. He noted that "without any trial, without investigation," the United States landed on the deck of the tanker and declared that it was transporting prohibited oil for sale.
