Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the upcoming week of negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict will be difficult and could be decisive. He wrote about this on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"We have never been so close to ending the Ukrainian conflict. <...> Fasten your seat belts. It will be a difficult week," the Prime Minister wrote.

He also noted that Europe wants to continue the conflict by confiscating frozen Russian assets, and called these actions "an open declaration of [economic] war." Orban called on the Europeans to negotiate, as US President Donald Trump does.

"That is why Hungary does not support the confiscation of frozen Russian assets, does not send money or weapons to Ukraine, and does not participate in any EU loans that serve the purposes of the conflict," Orban stressed.

The Euractiv portal, citing sources in European structures, reported on the same day that seven EU states do not support the idea of confiscating Russian assets under sanctions. According to the publication, Belgium, Hungary and Slovakia were joined by Italy, Bulgaria, Malta and the Czech Republic.

On December 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the actions of the European Union countries are the main threat in the world at the moment. He stressed that the EU uses the situation around Ukraine for self-assertion, as well as to counteract the United States and other states advocating a fair settlement.
