The signs of counterfeit auto parts are named

In most cases, counterfeit car parts, oils, or liquids are distinguished by an unnaturally low price, lack of branded packaging, defects in appearance, or incorrect labeling. Rossko analysts told Izvestia about this on December 16.

Most fakes enter the market through private ads, marketplaces, small retail outlets and automotive markets, where there is no transparent control system and post-audit of suppliers, said Timur Tursunov, head of the analytics department at the Russian auto parts distributor.

According to Rossko, oils, antifreeze, brake and other technical fluids are the main leaders in the number of counterfeits (71%). This is followed by filters (56%), suspension parts (37%), brake system components and car electronics (23.5%)

These categories remain the most vulnerable, as they are the easiest to counterfeit, and it is more difficult for consumers to identify counterfeit goods without special knowledge, experts say.

They cite the departure of some reliable suppliers, rising prices for original components, and an increase in the share of online commerce as reasons for the increase in fakes.

According to a Rossko customer survey, 60% of respondents in 2025 had at least once encountered fakes or substandard auto parts.

On December 8, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed extending experiments on voluntary labeling of a number of product categories, including components of vehicles, internal combustion engine devices, and self-propelled vehicles. The draft government decree provides for an extension until August 31, 2026, of the dates for conducting experiments on voluntary labeling of products, which, according to current regulations, end on February 28 of the same year.
