Moscow court declares Pussy Riot punk band extremist
The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow recognized the Pussy Riot group as an extremist organization and banned its activities in Russia. This was reported on December 15 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.
The meeting at which this decision was made was held behind closed doors from the press.
The court granted the relevant application of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, which was sent on November 28.
On September 15, the Basmanny District Court sentenced five members of the Pussy Riot group in absentia to 8 to 13 years in prison for spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces). It was clarified that Maria Alyokhina was sentenced to 13 years in a general regime colony, Taso Pletner was sentenced to 11 years in a general regime colony, Olga Borisova, Diana Burkot and Alina Petrova were given 8 years in a general regime colony.
