The Guardian learned about Asad's studies of ophthalmology and the Russian language
Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is updating his knowledge of ophthalmology and learning Russian. This was reported on December 15 by The Guardian newspaper.
"He is learning Russian and updating his ophthalmology knowledge again," a family friend of the former president told the newspaper.
It is noted that before the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2024, while in Damascus, Assad practiced ophthalmology. He is currently in Moscow improving his knowledge.
In 2024, after negotiations with the opposition, Assad resigned as head of state and left the country, instructing him to transfer power peacefully. The National Coalition of the Revolutionary and Opposition Forces of Syria announced work on the formation of a transitional authority.
