- Ambassador Verchenko announced the priority of completing the construction of the Nuclear Power Plant in Bolivia
The construction of the Rosatom Nuclear Research and Technology Center remains a priority for the Bolivian authorities, and the Government of the country emphasizes its interest in bringing the project to completion. Russian Ambassador Dmitry Verchenko announced on December 15.
"Taking into account the advanced stage of the project and its significant scientific and economic potential for Bolivia, the topic of the completion of the Nuclear Power Plant is currently a priority. Our interlocutors from among the members of the government of Rodrigo Paz invariably emphasize La Paz's interest in the successful implementation of this project," RIA Novosti quoted the diplomat as saying.
Verchenko noted that substantive negotiations on the parameters and conditions of the project are still complicated by the expected change in the leadership of the Bolivian Nuclear Energy Agency, which is a customer of the CNR.
At the same time, according to him, after completing the necessary personnel changes, the Russian side, including specialists from JSC GSPI (the State Specialized Design Institute of the Rosatom State Corporation), expects to return to dialogue with Bolivian partners and agree on the completion of construction.
Earlier, on October 28, it was reported that Russia and Bolivia signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cultural, artistic and educational cooperation between the countries. It was clarified that the ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture, Decolonization and Depatriarchalization of Bolivia, Esperanza Guevara, and the Russian Ambassador to La Paz, Dmitry Verchenko.
