Syrian law enforcement officers have detained five suspects in the attack on US and Syrian soldiers in Palmyra. This was announced on December 14 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic.

The operation was carried out in coordination with the intelligence services and the forces of the international anti-terrorist coalition.

The attack on American and Syrian soldiers in Palmyra was reported by Syria TV a day earlier. After the attack, wounded American soldiers were evacuated by helicopters to the US military base Al-Tanf, located in southern Syria. Later, the Pentagon reported that two US Army soldiers and one civilian translator were killed during an operation against the Islamic State group (IS, an organization recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).

According to the Alikhbariah TV channel, the military of the international coalition did not respond to warnings about a possible militant attack in the Palmyra area.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump promised to take retaliatory actions against ISIS after the deaths of American servicemen. Later, two F-16 fighter jets were lifted into the air over Palmyra.
