The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about a fraud scheme under the guise of checking water quality

The scammers began offering Russians an alleged water quality check on behalf of Vodokanal. This was announced on December 14 by the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

"Scammers are calling on behalf of Vodokanal, offering to replace the meter and conduct a laboratory water test. Then they ask you to name the code from the SMS — after that, the chain begins: a message about hacking an account on Public Services, then a call allegedly from the bank and a confident conviction to transfer money to a "secure" account — in fact, the account of criminals," the message says.
