Russia has never discussed a Korean-style settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated on December 14 by Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov to journalist Pavel Zarubin.

"Not once," Ushakov replied when asked if the "Korean option" of resolving the situation in Ukraine had been discussed.

He also said that various options for resolving the conflict were discussed with the American side. He added that the issue of territories was actively discussed during the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and special envoy of the American leader Stephen Witkoff, and Washington understands Moscow's position.

Ushakov noted that Russia had "very clearly stated its position on the issue of the Ukrainian settlement, which was clear to the Americans." According to him, Europe and Ukraine may make amendments to the plan that are unacceptable to Russia, which relate to the issue of territories. In this case, Ushakov warned, Moscow would have "very strong objections."

The day before, the Bild newspaper reported that US President Donald Trump is showing strong pressure on Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, seeking to obtain territorial concessions from him in the Donbas. Despite this, the US presidential administration assessed Zelensky's words about a possible referendum on a peace agreement, including territorial concessions, as a sign of progress in the negotiations.

On December 11, the Public television channel reported that Zelensky had allowed the holding of an "all-Ukrainian referendum" on the issue of territories. According to the TV channel, Zelensky said that the citizens of Ukraine should express their opinion on the issue of Ukraine leaving the controlled part of Donbass.

Zelensky said on December 8 that the points that Ukraine considered controversial were excluded from the settlement plan proposed by the United States, leaving 20 points out of 28. He believes that at the moment there is no compromise on the issue of territories.
