John Cena has officially ended his career as a wrestler
American wrestler John Cena has retired after 23 years in the ring. He fought his last fight under the auspices of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) organization on the night of December 14th.
As part of the fight, Cena faced wrestler Gunther at the WWE Saturday Night's Main Event XLII. The veteran wrestler lost the fight due to Gunther's choke hold. After the fight, Cena said goodbye to the fans, left his sneakers and wristbands in the ring as a sign of his retirement and went to the podium. Before that, he bowed to the fans, saluted and said his farewell words to the camera.
"It has been an honor to serve you all these years. Thank you," Cena said.
Hollywood actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and former wrestler Mar Calway, nicknamed "The Undertaker," came to Cena's last fight.
"I just don't know a guy who would be better suited to the phrase: "It's good to be important, but it's much more important to be good." Congratulations on an incredible career, my friend!" said Johnson.
The WWE press service on its page on the social network X (ex. Twitter) posted a video of Sina's farewell with the caption: "The best of the best. There will never be anyone like John Cena again!"
Cena made his WWE debut on June 27, 2002. During his career, he became the absolute record holder of the promotion for the number of major titles — 17. However, in recent years, Sina has actively pursued an acting career. So, in August of this year, the second season of the Peacemaker series was released with his participation.
