Politico newspaper compared Trump to the Grinch
With his disparaging statements about Europe, US President Donald Trump stole Christmas from European politicians, like a character in the books of American children's writer Dr. Seuss, the Grinch. This opinion was expressed by the Politico newspaper on December 13.
"After attending several Christmas parties at European embassies this week, it became clear that the mood is quite gloomy. It seemed as if the Europeans were from Leningrad (a fictional city from Seuss' fairy tales. - Ed.) watched in horror as the Grinch stole Christmas," the publication says.
The publication points out that one of the reasons for the decadent mood was the new National Security Strategy of the United States, where the European Union (EU) is severely criticized. One of the anonymous diplomats told the newspaper that because of Trump's actions, "the Western alliance has collapsed and will never be the same again."
"A psychologist could diagnose what European ambassadors in America are experiencing as psychosocial disorientation — a state of confusion about the personality itself or the future caused by a decisive break in the administration," the newspaper writes.
On December 7, Politico reported that the US National Security Strategy had caused widespread discontent in Europe, including due to accusations made against European countries. As the newspaper notes, citing an unnamed European official, the new document caused him "rage." In addition, the accusations contained in the strategy were "very disturbing."
