Panarin's goal helped the Rangers defeat Montreal in overtime.

Hockey club (HC) New York Rangers defeated HC Montreal Canadiens in overtime in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season match on December 14.

The meeting in New York ended with a score of 5:4. Forwards Noah Laba, Will Kaillie and captain J.T. Miller scored twice in the Rangers, scoring the decisive goal in overtime. In addition, Russian forward Artemy Panarin scored a free throw in the first period.

Montreal scored goals for forwards Zachary Boldyuk, Jake Evans, Josh Anderson and defenseman Arber Jackay. Russian defender Vladislav Gavrikov scored two shots on goal, and goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin deflected 13 shots. Montreal striker Ivan Demidov scored no points.

The Rangers broke a three-game losing streak, while the Canadiens lost in the third of their last four games.

Logan Stanley, Morgan Barron, Alex Iafallo and Gabriel Vilardi scored goals for the hosts of the ice, the Winnipeg Hockey Club, who scored twice. Jacob Chikran scored the only goal for the visitors, assisted by Russian striker Alexander Ovechkin. In the 2025/26 season, the 40-year-old forward scored 31 (14+17) points in 32 matches.
