Fraudsters began to intimidate Russians by issuing loans "by voice" and possible searches, during which money could allegedly be seized, follows from the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, which were reviewed by Izvestia on December 14.

"Scammers often use the topic of biometric data as a tool of psychological manipulation after citizens interact with phishing resources," TASS quoted him as saying.

It is reported that the scheme begins with a call from a person posing as an employee of a telecom operator. The victim is informed about the need to renew the contract for the maintenance of a landline phone and, under this pretext, they request passport data and a phone number.

Then a representative of the military commissariat allegedly contacts the person, who claims that fraudsters from an unfriendly country issued a loan to him "by voice."

After that, the "investigator" takes the initiative, who first accuses the citizen of helping scammers, and then promises to help close the loan. Next, a "lawyer" appears in the scheme, who finds out the availability of savings and scares with a possible search. Under the pretext of "declaring" funds, the victim is persuaded to transfer savings through couriers.

The Interior Ministry stressed that there were no facts of using biometric data for unauthorized access to payment services.

Earlier, on December 13, it was reported that scammers began to use travel packages before the New Year more often. It was clarified that the attackers create copies of the pages and sell vouchers on them. Fraudsters also force you to sign a contract with compulsory insurance.
