Russia mourns all the victims of the Bosnian War, regardless of their affiliation. This was stated on December 14 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in his article on the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement for the Serbian newspaper Politika.

"We mourn the numerous victims, regardless of their national, ethnic or religious affiliation. The tension in interethnic and interreligious relations, which persists to this day, also recalls the tragic past," he said.

The diplomat said that most of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina is still mined. As a result, innocent people continue to suffer.

"The Dayton Agreement did not become a panacea for all the troubles and disagreements that engulfed society in Bosnia and Herzegovina immediately after the collapse of the federal Yugoslavia. However, its main advantage lies in the fact that it stopped the bloodshed and allowed us to return to a peaceful life," Lavrov added.

Earlier, on November 3, 2021, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations (UN) Vasily Nebenzia stated that the aggravation of the internal political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is worrying Russia, which considers external forces to be the catalyst for what is happening.

On November 21, 1995, the peace talks in Dayton (USA) ended, ending the Bosnian War. It claimed the lives of about 100 thousand people. Despite the fact that the war was a civil one, that is, an internal matter of the warring parties — the Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks, peace in Bosnia was discussed overseas with the participation of international mediators: the United States, the European Union (EU) and Russia.
