An attack on a Christmas market was prevented in Germany
Five people were detained in the federal state of Bavaria in Germany on suspicion of preparing an attack on a Christmas market. This was reported on December 13 by the Bild newspaper.
"Thanks to the excellent cooperation of our security agencies, several suspects were detained as soon as possible, which prevented a potentially Islamist-motivated terrorist attack in Bavaria. Now our specialized agencies, together with the Munich prosecutor's office, must find out the circumstances of this case," said Joachim Herman, head of the Bavarian Interior Ministry.
It is noted that the detainees are three Moroccans, a native of Syria and an Egyptian. It is reported that information about the preparation of the terrorist attack was brought to the German law enforcement officers by the special service of a foreign state.
The Christmas market season opened in Germany on November 24. Despite the restrictions, most of the fairs opened according to schedule. At the same time, prices for fair products have increased significantly.
Earlier, on February 13, a car drove into a crowd of people in Munich, injuring 15 people. The city police on the social network page X (ex. Twitter) reported that the driver had been neutralized, and he was no longer a danger.
Before that, on December 20 last year, a car ran over a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. As a result, six people were killed and about 300 people were injured. On the same day, the perpetrator was arrested, he turned out to be a man born in 1974 from Saudi Arabia.
The representative of the German government in Saxony-Anhalt, Matthias Schuppe, called the incident a terrorist attack.
