The Russian team won seven gold, five silver and one bronze medals at the World Boxing Championships in Dubai, becoming the winner of the medal standings. The competition was held from December 2 to December 13.
The titles of world champions went to Vsevolod Shumkov (up to 60 kg), Ilya Popov (up to 63.5 kg), Ismail Mutsolgov (up to 75 kg), Dzhambulat Bizhamov (up to 80 kg), Sharabutdin Ataev (up to 86 kg), Muslim Gadzhimagomedov (up to 92 kg) and David Surov (over 92 kg) .
Silver medals were won by Edmond Khudoyan (up to 48 kg), Bair Batlaev (up to 51 kg), Vyacheslav Rogozin (up to 54 kg), Evgeny Kohl (up to 67 kg) and Sergey Koldenkov (up to 71 kg). The third place and the bronze award went to Andrey Peglivanyan (up to 57 kg), writes Sport-Express.
For the first time in the history of the competition, all Russian athletes who were announced for the tournament reached the semi-finals. Athletes of the Russian Federation performed under the flag and anthem of their native country.
The Kazakh team is in second place in terms of the number of medals (three gold, one silver, two bronze awards). The third in the medal standings are boxers from Uzbekistan (two gold, four silver, three bronze).
The day before, it was reported that Russian boxer Murat Gassiev knocked out Bulgarian athlete Kubrat Pulev and became the winner of the regular world heavyweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA). The competition was held as part of the tournament IBA.PRO 13 in Dubai.
