Skier Korostelev called his performance in the sprint at the World Cup terrible.
Russian skier Savely Korostelev called his start at the first race at the third stage of the World Cup in Davos terrible. He stated this on December 13 during a conversation with journalists.
"The performance was terrible," the VG portal quotes the Russian.
He noted that if the race looks like an easy two-minute race for the audience, then it is very difficult for the participants. Korostelev himself had a particularly hard time in the last 30 seconds, when his legs were "on fire," the athlete admitted.
On Saturday, Korostelev and skier Daria Nepryaeva won a quota for participation in the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy in the sprint race during the third stage of the World Cup in Davos, Switzerland. Nepryaeva took 39th place in qualifying for the sprint race, Korostelev — 52nd place. The Davos competition is their first start at the World Cup stages since 2022.
In October, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) upheld the ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions. Later, on December 2, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) declared this decision unlawful. The FIS accepted the CAS verdict and called on Russians to submit applications for neutral status.
