Seven people accused of kidnapping and robbery have been detained in St. Petersburg.

Seven people have been detained in St. Petersburg on charges of kidnapping, robbery, extortion and arbitrariness. This was reported on December 13 in the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.

It was previously established that in December, a group of people abducted two people from a gas station in the Nevsky district of the city. The attackers forcibly put people in a car and took them to a wooded area. There, threatening with weapons, they beat the passengers and stole money from them in the amount of more than 2 million 200 thousand rubles.

It is noted that the identities of the defendants were established through the joint work of investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia and employees of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg.

"A criminal case is being investigated on the grounds of crimes provided for in paragraphs "b" of Part 3 of Article 163, paragraph "b" of Part 4 of Article 162, paragraphs "a", "c", "d", "g", "z" of part 2 of Article 126, Part 2 of Article 330 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (extortion, robbery, kidnapping, arbitrariness)," the agency's website says.

The circumstances of the incident are being established. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the detainees will be resolved in the near future.

In October, an attempted kidnapping of football player Andrei Mostovoy and businessman Sergei Selegen was reported in St. Petersburg. The athlete was attacked by a group of unknown people, but the young man managed to fight off the kidnappers. Soon after, five suspects were detained in the Northern Capital. A criminal case has been opened into the incident under Articles 126 ("Kidnapping") and 162 ("Robbery") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
