Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Radiy Ilkaev, who died at the age of 88, made an invaluable contribution to the development of priority areas of physics and the domestic nuclear industry. This is stated on December 13 in a telegram from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Head of State noted that Ilkayev was an outstanding scientist, a true ascetic and a patriot.
"Over the years of fruitful research activity, he has made a truly unique contribution to the development of priority areas of physics, the domestic nuclear industry, to ensuring the country's defense capability and national security, and its technological sovereignty," the telegram says on the Kremlin's website.
Putin noted that the memory of Radiy Ivanovich Ilkaev will forever remain in the hearts of his relatives, colleagues, students and everyone who knew him.
The scientific director of the nuclear center in Sarov, Academician Radiy Ilkaev, died on December 10 at the age of 88. The scientist received his education at the Physics Department of Leningrad State University named after A. A. Zhdanov.
Since 1961, he has worked at the Russian Federal Nuclear Center VNIIEF (VNIIEF). Most of his scientific achievements are related to the creation of new types of nuclear and thermonuclear weapons, as well as the development of a thermonuclear reactor. He led the development of the concept of the Iskra-6 heavy-duty laser installation based on the Luch petawatt laser.
