Indian fans staged a pogrom at the Salt Lake Stadium in Calcutta after a short visit by Argentine football player Lionel Messi. This is reported by The Guardian newspaper.

Lionel Messi's tour of India began on Saturday on a chaotic note: fans tore out seats and threw them onto the field after a brief visit by the Argentine striker.

Messi arrived in India on December 12 for the unveiling of a 20-meter statue in his honor. The event was held at a stadium with a capacity of 70,000 spectators, the football player himself watched the opening via video link, after which, accompanied by security, he walked across the field, waved to the stands and left the arena 20 minutes later.

Dissatisfied with the brevity and format of the meeting, fans began to destroy the stadium and throw bottles on the field. Lionel Messi is a multiple Champions League winner, World Cup winner and eight-time Golden Ball winner.

The Tagesspiegel newspaper reported on May 19 that 33 police officers were injured in Berlin during riots staged by fans of the Turkish Galatasaray football team. It was noted that fans threw firecrackers at the police, who were forced to use tear gas.
