Onishchenko named risk groups for Hong Kong flu
Russians should not be afraid of the Hong Kong flu, but for people with chronic diseases of the lungs, cardiovascular and endocrine systems, infection can be dangerous. This was announced on December 13 by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko.
"It is impossible to say that every year, when there is an epidemic upsurge, that there are no deaths, unfortunately, this happens. As a rule, this occurs in people with chronic diseases of the lungs, cardiovascular, and endocrine systems," Onishchenko told RIA Novosti.
He added that the appearance of the virus in Russia was expected and predicted.
Earlier, on December 11, it was reported that the flu vaccine this fall includes antigens of the H3N2 virus, known as Hong Kong. Experts noted that the vaccine is still effective against other flu strains, reducing the incidence in vulnerable populations.
