Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico criticized the position of a number of EU countries on the conflict in Ukraine. He announced this on December 13 on Facebook (banned in Russia, owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

Fico said he did not want to be a part of Western Europe, for which, in his words, "the lives of Russians and Ukrainians mean nothing."

He also said that he had a telephone conversation with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa. According to him, while Costa was talking about financing military operations in Ukraine, he insisted that the conflict daily claimed the lives of "hundreds and even thousands of people."

The Prime minister stressed that Slovakia would not support the EU's plans to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine's military needs. He noted that he was ready to discuss only assistance in rebuilding the country on the basis of bilateral agreements.

Earlier, on December 9, it was reported that Fico announced his intention to speak at the EU summit against steps that could lead to a prolongation of the conflict in Ukraine. He also stressed that Slovakia is preparing a complaint against the European Commission over the suspension of Russian gas supplies and is forming a position aimed at protecting national interests.
