An inter-regional courier fraudster was caught in Cherepovets
In the Vologda region, an interregional courier was detained in Cherepovets, collecting tens of millions of rubles from victims. This was announced on December 12 by the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Vologda region.
"In early November, a local resident born in 1963 contacted the Cherepovets Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and told them that he had become a victim of a fraudulent scheme," the department's Telegram channel said.
It is reported that the man received an SMS allegedly from the former head and a call from a man who introduced himself as a law enforcement officer, after which he handed over more than seven million rubles in cash and another 2.5 million through an ATM to the courier.
The courier turned out to be a previously convicted resident of Novosibirsk, born in 2002, who was detained in Yaroslavl before traveling to Vologda.
"As it turned out, the young man, having been released from prison, was looking for work, but in the proposed options he was not satisfied with the salary, and he returned to the criminal path," the publication notes.
According to preliminary data, he committed at least nine similar episodes, took large sums in different regions of Russia and transferred them to criminal employers. The largest catch was more than 20 million rubles collected in Eastern Siberia.
It is specified that a 23-year-old resident of Novosibirsk is currently in custody. A criminal case has been opened into fraud under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale, punishable by up to 10 years in prison — Ed.)
Earlier, on December 12, it was reported that fraudsters in Russia had come up with a new scheme to deceive schoolchildren and their parents. VTB experts note a significant increase in the number of cases of deception aimed at schoolchildren, their parents and employees of educational institutions.
