The first heart surgery with innovative technology was performed in the Tambov region

For the first time in history, a catheter treatment of cardiac arrhythmias using innovative domestic equipment was performed in the Tambov region. It was performed on December 12 by the surgical team of the A.V. Vishnevsky Surgery Center, which was led by the Chief surgeon and endoscopist of the Russian Ministry of Health, Director General of the A.V. Vishnevsky National Research Medical Center of Surgery, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Amiran Revishvili.

"We came to visit the wonderful Tambov Hospital in order to start a treatment program for patients with arrhythmias. <...> In the country, we lose about 200,000 people from life—threatening arrhythmias — an urgent problem," he told Izvestia.

The first operation to eliminate the foci of arrhythmia was performed using the innovative Russian Astrocard — CARDIO EFI 2 non-fluoroscopic complex, a system that completely replaces foreign technologies.

"The system has its advantages because it can be operated with any catheters. And we perform all operations without an incision — through a medusa catheter. Today, catheter technology occupies the first place in the treatment of diseases such as atrial fibrillation," said Revishvili.

Doctors of the Vishnevsky National Research Medical Center of Surgery of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation intend to conduct several dozen training operations for regional specialists in Tambov. In the future, they will be able to treat patients on their own.

During the master classes, patients with supraventricular tachycardia will undergo radiofrequency catheter ablation, a minimally invasive intervention in which areas of the heart tissue responsible for pathological arrhythmic activity are affected through blood vessels.

The Vishnevsky National Research Medical Center of Surgery has extensive experience in performing such operations and a full range of treatment options for arrhythmias, from drug therapy to modern high—tech methods, including cyberknife work.

After the doctors of the Tambov Regional Clinical Hospital master the technology in practice, it will significantly expand the possibilities of providing cardiac surgery to residents of the region with a population of about 1 million people.

In a roundabout way: a new domestic drug for anesthesia has begun to be used

The remedy will help in cardiac surgery and pregnant women who are contraindicated in epidural anesthesia.

Prior to that, on October 10, Revishvili, during a press conference on "Innovations in modern surgery" at the Izvestia Medical Center, said that a cyberknife robot is currently working at the Vishnevsky National Research Medical Center, which treats oncological diseases and arrhythmias. He noted that the technology is at the stage of clinical trials, but it is already showing fantastic results and will continue to develop.
