Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to a cease-fire and respect for an earlier peace agreement. This was announced on December 12 by US President Donald Trump on the Truth Social network.

"I had a very good conversation with Thai Prime Minister Anuthin Chanvirkun and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. <...> They agreed to a complete ceasefire starting tonight and return to the original peace agreement concluded with me and them with the assistance of the great Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim," it said. in the publication.

He stressed that both countries are committed to a peaceful settlement and are interested in continuing trade and economic ties with the United States.

On December 8, the Cambodian military opened fire on the Thai Anupong base, killing one soldier and injuring two others. The Thai army has called on residents of border areas to evacuate to shelters due to the threat of escalation of the conflict.

The next day, on December 9, fighting between Thailand and Cambodia unfolded along the entire joint border, affecting five regions and hundreds of citizens on both sides. It was emphasized that the disputed territories along the 817-kilometer border have repeatedly become a source of conflict.

On December 11, Trump announced a conversation with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia to resolve the conflict between the countries. He added that he hopes to force the sides to cease hostilities. According to him, the United States can play a key role in preventing the escalation of the conflict.
