The court extended the arrest of the ex-mayor of Sochi Kopaigorodsky for six months.

The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has extended for six months the arrest of former Sochi mayor Alexei Kopaigorodsky and his wife Yanina in a corruption case. This was reported to Izvestia on November 12 by the court's press service.

In addition to charges of receiving four particularly large bribes, mediation in bribery (Articles 290 of the Criminal Code and 291.1 of the Criminal Code) and embezzlement (Article 160 of the Criminal Code), Kopaigorodsky is charged with committing three crimes under paragraph "b" of Part 4 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code — "Legalization of funds or other property obtained by criminal means." by the way." The amount of funds legalized by the spouses exceeds 104 million rubles. They do not admit their guilt.

In November, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office approved a criminal indictment against Kopaygorodsky, his wife Yanina and assistant Alexander Pasunko.

Kopaygorodsky was detained on September 25 in the special operation zone, where he had gone some time ago as a volunteer. At the same time, he was arrested until November 18. The ex-mayor is charged with embezzlement of 3.7 million rubles, he pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is also being investigated for involvement in other crimes. If confirmed, new charges will be brought against him.

Lawyers for the wife of former Sochi mayor Yanin told Izvestia on November 14 that she had declared an indefinite hunger strike in jail. It was clarified that the woman made this decision after the court denied the request for the opportunity to see the children without restrictive conditions. A little later, Yanina refused to go on hunger strike, due to the fact that they explained to her the procedures for providing visits in the pre-trial detention center.
