In Ukraine, reports of Kiev's consent to a buffer zone in Donbass were denied.
The Ukrainian authorities did not agree to create a buffer zone in Donbas. This was announced on December 12 by Dmitry Litvin, Adviser to the President of Ukraine.
"The media spread information that Ukraine allegedly agreed to a demilitarized zone in Donbas, but the translation and presentation there are incorrect," Lytvyn said on the Ukrainian TV channel 24.
In particular, he said that the media referred to the words of Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, who allowed for discussion of different scenarios based on details and implementation in practice.
"Whether Ukraine will agree to such steps is decided only at the highest political level or by the people of Ukraine," Lytvyn said.
Earlier in the day, Le Monde announced Kiev's agreement to create a buffer zone. The newspaper wrote that the relevant provision is included in the "updated 20-point peace plan", which was prepared by Kiev with the participation of Great Britain, France and Germany and recently handed over to the American side.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 4 that Russia would in any case liberate Donbass and Novorossiya by military or other means. He also added that Russia offered Ukraine to withdraw troops from Donbass and not to start military operations, but Kiev chose to fight.
