The emergency condition of the Pridneprovsky chemical plant in Kamenskoye, Ukraine, threatens to pollute the Dnieper River, which may lead to the ingress of decay products of uranium raw materials into the Black Sea. This was announced on December 12 by the head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces of the Russian Armed Forces, Major General Alexei Rtishchev.

"The situation at the Dnieper chemical plant is worrying. In the period from 1949 to 1991, this production facility processed uranium concentrates and uranium ore, and is currently being used for a different purpose," he is quoted as saying in the Telegram channel of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Rtishchev stressed that due to the emergency condition of the premises, precipitation washes away radioactive waste that can enter the Dnieper River. He also added that the Russian Army had never attacked this plant.

On December 5, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that the organization's specialists had completed a comprehensive safety assessment of the sarcophagus at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP), which was seriously damaged as a result of a drone strike and the subsequent fire of the cladding in February. The IAEA insisted on carrying out further restoration work, including measures to control humidity and an updated corrosion monitoring program, as well as upgrading the monitoring system of the Shelter facility.
