The liberation of the settlement of Seversk in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) enabled Russian troops to advance towards Slavyansk and Krasny Liman, against which the enemy is panicking. This was announced on December 11 in a comment to Izvestia by historian and director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces Yuri Knutov.

According to the expert, the cleanup of the city's territory will be fast enough, because the settlement is not that big. The main role in it was played by stone buildings, which were used for long-term fortifications. It was difficult enough to dislodge the enemy from there, but after that the weakened group was destroyed.

Now, Russian troops can move further towards Slavyansk from the Krasny Estuary, as well as from Seversk in a westerly direction.

"This is a fairly good strategic and tactical position, and I think our army will take advantage of it. The enemy is already starting to panic, and this panic is being transmitted directly to the Kiev leadership," Knutov said.

Knutov recalled the statement of the Verkhovna Rada deputy Maryana Bezugla, who spoke about the imminent "fall of Seversk" and called on the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Alexander Syrsky to resign.

On December 11, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov congratulated the Russian military on the liberation of Seversk in the DPR and noted their confident progress in the Seversk direction. Belousov stressed that military personnel perform combat missions in the most difficult areas, showing courage and bringing victory closer.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that Russian President Vladimir Putin had received a detailed report on the liberation of Seversk. He said that the meeting was attended by Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Sergei Medvedev, commander of the South group of forces, and Denis Pirogov, commander of the 123rd Motorized Rifle Brigade. The Russian leader noted that the strategic initiative is entirely in the hands of the Russian Armed Forces (AF).
