The European Union (EU) countries are resisting any peaceful initiatives on the Ukrainian crisis, taking into account the interests of the Russian side. This was stated on December 11 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, at a briefing.

"Russophobes in Western European countries, primarily in the leadership of the EU and the European Commission, clearly resist any diplomatic initiatives that could bring peace closer, taking into account Russia's interests," Zakharova said.

She also added that Russia's priority is the pursuit of peace, which is why the Russian side has been doing everything possible to resolve the conflict in Ukraine from the very beginning.

On December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that no one had excluded Europe from negotiations on Ukraine, they themselves had stopped contacts with the Russian Federation. According to him, European countries are unhappy with the current results and are now preventing the administration of US President Donald Trump from reaching a peaceful settlement.

Alexei Pushkov, a member of the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council, said on December 6 that there was growing concern in Europe that it could be excluded from the conflict settlement process in Ukraine. He stressed that Europe mainly creates problems, costs and security threats for the United States. He also noted that the American leader clearly does not believe in the possibility of inflicting a "strategic defeat on Russia."
