President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky longs to remain in power, but he has no chance of being re-elected legally. This was stated at a briefing on December 11 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"Zelensky obviously expects to remain in power, there is no doubt about it. But at the same time, no one has any doubts that he has no chance of being re—elected legally," Zakharova said.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the idea of financial support for Kiev by Western countries for holding elections unprecedented. In her opinion, Zelensky has a chance of winning only if the votes of voters from abroad are involved according to the "Moldovan scenario."

"It is clear that Zelensky wants elections from the West, not in the universal sense, he does not need elections in Ukraine, he needs "elections of himself," the diplomat said.

On December 9, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced his readiness to hold presidential elections. This is how he commented on the statement by US President Donald Trump. In an interview with Politico, the American leader said that the time was right for holding presidential elections in Ukraine. According to Trump, the Ukrainian authorities are using the pretext of the ongoing conflict in the country in order to postpone the elections.
