Shoigu stated Russia's concern about US policy towards Taiwan and the Philippines

The US policy of militarization of Taiwan and the Philippines worries Russia and all countries in the region. Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu told reporters on December 11.

Speaking about his meetings with the leadership of Laos, he noted that they discussed, first of all, issues of ensuring regional and national security. In particular, they talked about the built-up architecture of "ASEAN-centric security", as well as attempts to interfere or destroy it by various blocs that are not in the mood for friendly relations with both the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Russia.

"I mean, first of all, the United States. Of course, what is happening today, the policy that the United States is pursuing today regarding the militarization of Taiwan and the Philippines, cannot but worry the countries of the region, and cannot but worry us," Shoigu quoted TASS as saying.

In this context, the head of the Russian Security Council also mentioned the militarization of Japan, when in a fairly short period of time the country rapidly revised its views, including the amount of funding for defense issues. This fact, according to Shoigu, suggests that militarization has a fairly active dynamic.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on December 3 that China opposes any form of official interaction between the United States and Taiwan. The diplomat called on the American side to faithfully observe the one-China principle and the provisions of the three joint communiques, approach the Taiwan issue with extreme caution, cease official contacts with Taiwan and refrain from any erroneous signals to separatist forces.

Reuters, citing Taiwanese President Lai Qingde, reported on November 26 that Taiwan plans to allocate an additional defense budget of $40 billion to strengthen its defense and purchase weapons from the United States.
