Budapest expressed unwillingness to participate in the meeting of the Council of the European Union (EU) on Ukraine, additionally not supporting the country's membership in the association. This was announced on December 11 by Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs Janos Boca.

"This is a political show that the Hungarian government does not want to assist in," he wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

According to Bock, Hungary also opposes providing financial assistance to Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on November 20 that Ukraine did not meet any of the criteria for joining the EU. According to her, there is no democracy on the Ukrainian territory, as well as transparency of the judicial system and anti-corruption legislation.
